one of my cats has gone so when replacing do i need anything else ..... eg exhaust putty any types of seals etc etc etc

Probably quite a few HSS drillbits to drill the old studs out when they snap. And then either run a tap through to clean up the threads (cant remember which size atm) or slightly thinner nuts and bolts to go through the holes to the centre box.
Worth trying to soak with penetrating fluid overnight first though, you might get lucky and they will undo rather than snap off. ;)

You need to undo the 2 13mm bolts holding the cat to the exhaust mid section...then have a couple of extensions on a 16mm long socket (smaller spark plug socket is 16mm and ideal) to remove the 2 nuts holding the cat to the exhaust manifold...dont forget to unclip the lambda sensor... then undo the 13mm bolt holding the cat in place about half way down...
Shouldnt need putty etc unless the mid section is badly rusted...there is a standard metal exhaust seal between the cat and exhaust manifold which you may as well change...although it may well not need changing...
You may well need a breaker bar to get the various nuts loose! :y

Just to add not to put exhaust putty on the inlet flange of the cat, apparently it will do irreversible damage to the cat if it gets in there. This warning came with a new set of cats I fitted to my Omega A last year.
