my engine management light comes on intermittently and the engine stalls the rev counter goes up and down wildly but still runs  poorly.if i stop restart the engine its fine for weeks sometimes can anyone tell me if the 56.0/56.1 simtec has a memory to retain information on this type of intermittent fault thanks

Blocked breather jet and hoses are a common problem on the 2.0l.  I had it with mine, cutting out at low revs, erratic idling etc.  Cleaned them out as per this guide and it made a world of difference.

Total costs is about £20 plus the time to do it.  Thats to buy the IACV and Throttle body gasket (if you take the throttle body off as well) and some carb cleaner.

If you take the rear air intake hose off (5 minute job) and look in the top of the throttle body, if its really dirty then that is a good sign the breather jet etc is blocked as the air is not going around the system correcly and oily fumes get into the top of the throttle body fouling it up.
