ok, i knew the clutch was high when i got it, expected it to be a lot cheaper then £450 to replace it! and then the dmf if it needs it. boo.
how easy is it to do a clutch on a 2.2?
amyone nr hants that wants to earn a few bob doing it for me?

at this point, im not spending that on it and risk having to change the dmf. could be very short ownership!

Do you get any funny noises with the engine running and your foot down on the clutch? Metallic clunking/clacking noises?. If no, you`re DMF should be OK

Do you get any funny noises with the engine running and your foot down on the clutch? Metallic clunking/clacking noises?. If no, you`re DMF should be OK
really havnt noticed any, its all pretty quiet, will double check. £655 for a new one l;ol some say you should replace both together? but surely if its ok i can just get a clutch in? but even £450 for a clutch is a bit much at moment.

I am slightly surprised that the clutch has gone on a desmond (petrol?).
Note, its a hydraulicly operated clutch so the bite will always be high.

tis petrol (has a tow bar, and has been owned by a older gent for last erm centry i think lol) which could explain it.
its on 86k miles
its not gone, or slipping yet. but it bites about a inch at most from the top, so you have to being your foot almost off the clutch before you move anywhere.
im worried if i dont get the clutch done soon, and i leave it til its slipping then i will def have to replace the DMF.
its all pants pants pants :( lol
just found out how much its going to cost to replace a septic tank, and just had half the bill so far for my boat, really wasnt expecting omega to be costing me so much already, i was expecting £200 for a new clutch (fitted) didnt even know it had a DMF lol only had the thing a week.

As already stated, you cant judge the clutch state by the level of the bite as it will be as high on a new clutch as it is on a buggered one.
I get the impression that there is nothing wrong with it :y

got a few more quotes now, couple indy garages that have alwys been pretty good.
prices still £440-£478
clutch £205
slave cylinder consentric doobyda £128 (best to do that)
£110 labour
then a bit for oil n stuff.
so, after your advice on the bite point etc, im going to carry on til it just starts to slip then asling as i dont drive it too far when it does start it shouldnt damage the dmf too much, that way if its just really high it could last lots longer.
but its so high it actualy anouys me, if its always going to be the sme even with a new clutch i doubt i will keep it long.

forgot to ask
is there any way to adjust the pedel height? i know it wont effect clutch bite but if i could adjust that down a little, sits a inch higher then the brake pedal.

I don't see why you'd change the slave cylinder. :-/ They are normally reliable and if it isn't showing any signs of leakage.
Anyway, doesn't sound like the clutch is knackered anyway.

with my luck, after doing a clutch the slave would then leak need changing and ruin the clutch or something lol
have you ever used RM mechanics ? garage near you? seemed pretty helpfull.

if it sits an inch higher than the brake pedal you need to check why it probably is missing a sleeve from where the pin goes through the pedal or something stupid like that, i'm geussing there's nothing wrong with the clutch but rather the pedal position, by the way this dmf you're talking about is that another word for the pressure plate?

where are you sourcing your parts from? i can get it fitted from £110. but they all want the same for parts, 200 for clutch 130 for slave cylinder, eurocarparts is 155 clutch 126 for slave. got a mate getting prices tomoz with trade discount.
i can get the parts here, then wait for it to slip.

it might not be worn, which is why im going to wait til it slips, and try adjustin the pedal, but i really hate it bitin that high so it might have to go, gearchanges are sloow
also, ive had a fair few cars with hydraulic clutches, none of which bite nr the end of the clutch travel, its been towing, and im going to use it for towing, so i want to be prepared if it does go.

That's what the manuals are like, on the few I have briefly driven. Leave it be IMO. You'll soon get used to it. ;)

I source my parts from both a local firm and off the internet, I have got a Reconditioned pressure and friction plate from a local firm - Kestral Transmissions, they come with a 2 year unlimited mile warrenty, and the slave cylinder also reconditioned with a 2 year warrenty off of flea bay...
People may not agree with getting reconditioned parts, but when there just as good as new ones, and come with better warrentys.. whose to argue...

If the clutch breaks or malfunctions through a fitting error.. No.. but if its a clutch fault then Yes...
They also are one of the only companies that manufactor Kevlar lined clutches.. and also High Performance clutches... built to whatever spec you want...

My clutch went at 130k ish. Not too shabby for ex plod. :-/
Prices for LMF parts were:
£200 for clutch kit including slave cylinder,
£450 for the flywheel,
£20 crank seal (gen vx)
£250 labour if you can't be doing with spending a day under the car. It's only 24 bolts. :y though bleeding it is a bit of a pig. :-/
I've had 2 manual Omegas, and had clutch failures on both. First one was a bearing failure caused by a replacement clutch being fitted without changing the bearing. Went from grumbling to exploding after 10 mins of stop start traffic and destroyed the contents of the bell housing. :o
2nd one just wore out, started slipping a bit and then just gave up.
If yours is doing neither of the above then it's fine, best leave well alone. :y

I should add that I am yet to see a slave cylinde fail on a manual Omega.....and given that I have been heavily involved with Omegas for 10+years and seen more than most......I would infer they are VERY reliable.
