Title: Fastest Combination of Road Cams
Post by: rajveer.sandhu on 23 June 2011, 16:01:48
I have a 3.0v6 with standard road cams (as it was when it left the factory).

My question is what combination of road cams would I need to produce the most amount of power?
Would it be 4x G-Cams from a 3.2?
Or any other combination?

I am planning to also source some 3.2 Exhaust manifolds.
Would anyone recommend taking anything else from the 3.2v6 (or other) to improve performance?

The whole engine ???  You seem to be trying to replace your present one bit by bit anyhow !!!  :)

IIRC, the 3.2 actually had slightly milder exhaust cams than the 3.0, partially to make up for the lack of an EGR system.

Just because it came from a (marginally) larger engine it doesn't mean it's better. ;)

Exhaust manifolds are better from a 3.2 but I can't think of any other component that's not either exactly the same on a 3.0, completely incompatible, or would offer no performance increase.

Changing cams on the 2.5 was an upgrade mainly because they detuned the 2.5 to differentiate it from the 3.0. There is no equivalent upgrade for a 3.0.

Not much you can do with the 3.0 TBH.  Better exhaust manifold is the starter and probably finishing point. I assume its already a manual, as that will make it quicker overall than the autos.

The 3.0 and 3.2 in real world terms (I have both sat on the drive) are the same, as we've proven time and time again for those who's brakes could manage it :P

Hmm. That reminds me, actually. Brakes are rumbling a little at the moment, and I've got a 1600kg, 100' trailer mounted tower to tow up to the top of a very steep hill and back down next weekend. ::)
