Title: Climate Control "control"
Post by: bigegg on 24 June 2011, 16:56:23
Whilst I'm waiting for my mig to return from having the rear wheel bearing done [1], I'm contemplating the final  ::) repair to her.

The climate control *appears* to work OK - but no (or VERY little) air comes out of the vents.
The fan sounds to be blowing OK, and changes speed with the controls.
Using the "direction"(?) switch doesn't appear to make any difference - just a faint breeze (barely enough to disturb a candle flame) from all the vents.

I'm guessing that somewhere at the back of the dashboard are some sort of valves which control air flow to each outlet (feet, face or windscreen), and it has stopped working in some way.

I stripped down the passenger side glove box area to get to the fan motor, and I couldn't see anything which controlled the air flow, so where is it, and how do I get to it?

Also - are the flaps on the valves controlled by vacuum? because I still have a few issues with the vacuum hoses which control the multirams.
Could this problem be related?

[1](poor sod at the garage quoted me "two hours labour" - that was 10am, and he's *still* not finished taking the arm off at 16:45  :)  )

Yes and Yes

Have a read of this V6 engine bay vacuum pipes (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152565204)

It is also worth fitting a new pollen filter if you don't know when it was last changed.

I read the V6 vacuum hose guide :.)
several times   :-[

Is the pollen filter the large square filter under the passenger side windscreen wiper? Accessed from the engine bay? Cos I've had a look at that, and it's reasonably clean and clear of debris

Car STILL not back from the garage - now running at 8! hours on changing the wheel bearing :.)
SO glad I decided not to do it myself  ;D

I also found this:
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1196616207

which sort of explains where the flap controls are - but it mentions a motor? not a vacuum hose and actuator?

Guessing he's still not finished now either  ;D. Poor bugger, oh dear.  :(

Also remember the re set. Press and hold auto and off together until the motors start to buzz. May need ignition in position two if a face lift.

Have you tried resetting the flaps?

To do this you need to press Auto & Off iirc for a few seconds at the same time, you will here some whirring then they should set themselves.
Also there are two small motors in the footwell that work the flaps. I changed my own drivers side as it would not blow out of that side. If you remove the cover which hides the wires in the foot well, then look over towards the console where the air would come out blowing at your feet, there should be a small round ish cover under that there lies the motor.
I am going off memory here so bare with me  ;D

I think I tried resetting the flaps when I first got the car, months ago.

When (if [2] ) I get the car back, I'll try it again.

[2] took all day yesterday to remove the arm, has spent all day today putting it back on.

Rear bush now done - 2pm he finished, so 8 hours yesterday, and a further six today.

He'd quoted me £70 + the bearing (£50), so I definitely got the right end of that bargain :.)

Anyway - I've tried resetting the flaps, no whirring noise, no effect on the amount of air.
I do appear to have a breeze coming from the passenger footwell, but again this doesn't change when press the direction controls.
