ok, so I had a dead spot when I was pulling away out of junctions / roundabouts a bit sharpish (like, foot planted and ..........nothing to speak of).
Thinking it was probably the 50k sparks I changed them and discovered one of the DI packs had given up on cyl no 2 so this was duly replaced and I thought that everything was solved.
Now I have the same problem again.
Any thoughts without stripping the sparks again or speculatively getting the DI pack for the other bank?
Milage is 95k

Codes? Pedal trick in maintenance under paper clip test.
It will tell you which cylinder.
ie 0302 means misfire detected on cylinder 2. 0303 miss on pot 3 etc.

oh!
Thanks!!
as a 2.6 then I do the pedal trick then, not the paperclip one?
-
Downer (i suppose?!?!) - constant flashing! no faults on the electrical.
I suppose that is a useful test to do occasionally though.
Any other thoughts why I can floor it away and only slowly gather speed until the 4k mark then off it goes. This is not every time but quite often.

When was it last serviced?
Have you had any work done on the engine prior tothis happening?
-
last serviced about 11k ago in sept last year (yes, service due!) - power loss has been noticable since about Feb / March. (not bothered to really see to it due to job uncertainty)
Cam belt done at service, heater motor and battery changed in Dec when the motor took the battery out when it stayed on overnight!
Otherwise no other work done.
As I said, I am not totally certain it happens every time I pull away but it could be.
When up and running it is fine and flies over 4k.

I'm not a mechanic, but I would def change the plugs & oil as soon as you can to start with.
Ref it picking up and flying around 4k, I believe they all do as that's the power band. Mine does the same and just goes mental around 3.5 - 4k ;D ;D
-
I did the sparks with the DI but to no real benefit (even though the DI pack was leaking stuff).
The service is waiting as there are a number of things that need to be done if I keep it or not at all if it goes which will only be within the next month or two.

Front multi ram not working?

There is a slight step normally, and I mean very slight. Again I would suspect failed front multi ram...? ESP if it's that noticeable.
-
mmmm - you may be on to something there.
The take of at 4k is VERY noticable in all conditions.
Exhaust note changes significantly (just put that down to the Eternal Exhaust!)
Off to check 'how 2' guides for overhaul of front multi-ram...
-
Given the symptoms, I too would suspect the multirams not working as expected.
Frequently the 1 way valve in the vac reservoir fails, emptying the vac at WOT
-
OK.
So having identified the offending item from this 'how2 (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1192573832)' what do I actiually do to the front ram link to help the situation? Spray it with lubricant or some cleaning fluid or are there service parts?

Check the vac layout is correct, and that the vac reservoirs work correctly
-
sorry to be a bit dim but could u xplain your last comment - 'correct layout' an 'working correctly'. not much use if i have no idea what is 'correct'!

Where to start. Easiest way is to plug tech2 in and activate them remotely.
Failing that... The front multi ram sits in the alloy section of the air inlet. Between Maf and throttle. The inlet, or bagpipes, are the first thing that has to be removed to acess the cam belt etc, and usually the last thing to be neglected on re fitting.
Check the electrical plug connector is seated correctly. That the two vac pipes are routed to the vac reservoir. If so and still no joy there's a one way valve in the vac tank that may have failed. Replace vac tank from a breaker here.
Rear is similar on the back of plenum, except the vac tank for that is behind the pollen filter housing under the scuttle. This one though, I'm fairly sure affects top end rev range. Hence suspect the front multi ram in your case.
