Title: water pipe problem

hi i wonder if somebody could help, today i was out driving when i stopped and turned off the engine alot of steam came out from under the bonnet, i thought it was the expansion tank, closer inspection i realised it was a pipe nearer the bulk head the lower 1 (i think) how ever ive tried looking in the haynes manual it tells you nothing, not how to change it where it goes to or anything
