Title: Timing Belt Slightly Out Or Something Else?? Help
Post by: Cotty on 29 June 2011, 13:11:47
Hi all,I've just bought a W Reg 2.5V6 CD and after doing all the regular servicing ie changed plugs, leads, oil change, flushed coolant, cleaned plenum and breathers, air filter and new fuel filter its still running slightly rough.
I bought it for 400 squid 72000 miles, all mot's present and its immaculate, even the aircon works.
The guy I bought it off had recently spent 800 on getting the timing belt and rocker gaskets done(new tyres aswell) so would I be right in assuming the garage has not fitted the timing belt correctly??
There was no oil in the plug wells and no apparent leaks anywhere but it does improve when put in sport mode!!
I've not had over 15.6 mpg which is a killer on my wallet,I'm now best friends at my local Shell garage!!
I've never done a timing belt yet but I'm competant working on Omega's and have all the tools to start a damn business but with the car being immaculate I don't want to 'dangle berries' the engine as it's a beauty.
Any ideas, advice would be greatly appreciated and if there's anyone near Blackburn who'd like to lend a hand I'll gladly pay for some help,I don't trust garages anymore and I've just had my shoulder op 2 weeks ago so I'm in damn pain but that does'nt stop me working on the beast.
Thanks in advance cotty :-/

Is it running rough or is it missing?  Could be the DIS pack?

Hi,I thought that and had a good look when I replaced the wiper motor and linkage and it seemed like new but even so you could be right. Cheers

Hi Guffer, its crap on tickover in effect as the whole car vibrates at a standstill, not severe but damn noticeable.Under accelleration and especially in sport mode its fine while you're putting the power down but as soon as you let off the gas (no pun intended guffer) ; D its spluttery again. And on the motorway once the auto decides to stay in top gear its bad then aswell unless you press sport or drop to no 3 and it runs better. It likes the high revs and hates the lows and tickover. Flummoxed me,I've had 3 Omega's and never come across this. Possible Cam Sensor? The oil was thick black when I drained it so the cam,and crank sensors are both going to be coated!! I'll go have a look now the nosy neighbours have gone in!! Can't be doing with the simpletons who always manage to delay your work with nonsense >:( :y

DIS pack symptons should exist all through the rev range.  Cam/crank sensor?  Are there any codes?

I know ours are 4 pots, But, that is exactly how the estate ran when the cam sensor needed replacing, used to take it for a thrash to 'clear' the engine and fine with the pressure on, once off then lumpy, new cam sensor then fine..... :y :y

Thanks for that Vamps, the cam sensor was one of my original thoughts but due to the timing belt being recently done I was swayed to that probability.
Had a further look earlier and it looks like the garage did a rush job putting the wiring loom and connecters back so they've more than likely damaged it on replacement
I'll take it out at first light and see if its been fitted correctly, its more than likely been over tightened.
Your advice is very much appreciated, cheers. :y

If they've made a mess of fitting the cable tray and associated bits I'd be suspicious that the belt has been changed without a locking kit ;) ::)
