came out the house today to go on a journey in the car, she started ok but the steering was almost impossible to move the wheels, had a quick check on the fuses as had had a problem like this before when steering went heavy and it turned out to be a 20 or30 amp fuse that had gone,
all fuses ok so had a look under the bonnet and found a snapped belt.
it has 6 grooves and is about an inch wide it goes round alot of pullies including the alternator.
how much roughly are the belts and what exactly is it?
please reply as have work in the morning and will have to use the missus lovely purple bike with a nice wicker basket on the front,
will euro or somewhere similar do them and roughly how much will it be to replace it, im guesing its a two min job to do, havent driven the car so cant see that i have done any dammage

Would help if you said which engine you have, but its the Aux belt, it powers a number of things including the waterpump for the engine if you have a V6.
Cheap as chips, less than £20, and doddle to fit.

Its the auxilliary belt mate - drives alernator, water pump, power steering pump and air con compressor.
On TC about £20 from Vx dealer.
Check tensioner pulley/bearing free running and not seized (small pulley top left when facing the engine. ;)
Assuming you have a V6 :)

Wasn't your red charge light lit? If not, it should have been because your alternator won't be turning with no fan/aux belt.
If a V6 with secondary air injection fitted, you'll have to thread the belt in behind one of these pipes. Still not a difficult job. :y
If using a pattern belt, be aware that some people here have had problems with some due to being a little short.
