Title: yet another brake light bulb

my 2.2dti elite keeps blowing brake light bulbs,
must have had 5 in the last year,
is there any reason for this, a common fault maybe?
im replacing them with halfords bulbs as they are fairly cheap and its local to me, its the bulb with the two elements

go to the stealer's and get original ones . most aftermarket bulbs are naf  :y

if you have had 5 halfrauds bulbs in the last year and none of them have brought up the brake light warning then you are extremely lucky  :o  usually the bulbs they use have a different resistance   >:( which causes the car not to reconise it  >:(
as above post get to the stealers they are still cheap there  :y

Halfords bulbs are krap - use either Vx or Ring  :y

I had to use Halfrauds the other day for a headlight bulb, just a regular H7 jobbie but they were marked up at £9.99, I got it for around three squid with a Trade Card.
Trouble was it didn't quite fit properly, I could get the old one in no problem but the new one nearly broke the fitting before I eventually managed to get it in place.

have changed the bulb which i got from a local car shop for 70pence and gues what two days in and its blown again, there must be a more serious problem somewhere, maybe a power surge or something

Could be arcing of the bulb in the holder. This can sometimes put voltage "spikes" through the bulb or even melt the solder on the bulb end. Check that the bulb is making proper contact.

Dodgy wiring tends to result in dim bulbs. Usually this is a bad earth.
Otherwise do the headlights go really bright as you rev the engine? If so, the alternator regulator could be playing up.

As quoted above - try genuine Vx bulb, not one from local autoshop.  Had this problem on the saloon - replaced with Ring bulb - been ok ever since  ;)
