Title: Re:TD Instrument Panel is Dead
Post by: 350sb on 02 July 2011, 23:18:33
Hi Guys,

While driving back on the M5 back to London today, my Dash panel went dead about half way to Bristol, i.e. no rev counter,no temperature gauge, no fuel gauge, no dash  lights and the speedo is stuck at 15mph even with  the engine switched off. The windows stopped working, as well as the sunroof. The car starts and runs, but I'm relying on a Tomtom's speedo. Any clues, before loosing hope and calling the AA :-/????

Shaun

Used to get that all the time with the last 2.2dti estate, it turned out it was the drivers heated seat (not that you would have had that on) but also many other things on that fuse. :-?

You must mean fuse no.14, which also  connects to power steering and cigarette lighter. I had the satnav connected to the cigarette lighter throughout the journey, but I didn't check if it was charging. I'll test the fuse and get back to  you. I managed to override the driver's door window switch to close the window as there is +12v when connecting the meter to the fuse.I open the dash panel and reconnected ,but still the same. Also when starting the car, it takes a while to crank, as if there is no fuel going in.The speedo is still stuck at 15 mph, the oddometer and trip counter stuck from over 230 miles ago. :question

Just finished testing the fuses and found fuse no.15 blown. Changed the fuse and the dash lights now switch on and off as normal when turning the key and starting the engine. The engine starts on the turn, but the gauges (speedo-stuck at 15mph, rev counter, temperature and fuel) are dead. Is it time to replace the instrument panel? :question
