Title: oil spec ???
Post by: noel on 02 July 2011, 08:41:42
just done an oil  & filter change on my 2.6 v6 with castrol 10/40 part synthetic.
is there any difference between part synthetic & semi synthetic ???.
have noticed that i have a small amount of mayo on the oil filler cap and filler neck but has only happened since the oil change.
i have no oil or water loss so dont suspect head gasket.
any advice would be grateful. ;)

Castrol is well known to cause 'mayo' on the V6! The general consensus here is VX 10w 40 semi synth is the way to go & very cheap with a Trade Club card  :y

Thats because Castrol oil is shite. Personally, its not good enough for my lawnmower, certainly wouldn't allow it in my car engine ;). Shame, as the cash and carry sell it cheap.

GM Semi 10W40, works out around £12 for 5l if you buy on the Tradeclub 4 for 3 offer, and is my preferred Omega oil. And Rover oil. And Kawasaki. And the mower :P

Not heard of it, so can't comment.

Ansure it meets the required API standards as a minimum, and see how it goes.

Yup, check that against your owners handbook. If it meets or exceeds it, try it. If its any good, then happy days :y

If it mayos like shitty Castrol, then it hasn't cost too much :y
