Happened about a year ago and a new brake light switched cured the problem. This time its slightly different in that when I press the brake pedal the brake lights do come on and the check brake message disappears but there is no clicking noise from underneath the autobox selector.
Is the problem still likely to be the brake light switch or could it be the lever release solenoid?
At the moment I'm manually pressing the release lever.

Hi, If you disconnect the yellow and yellow/black wires from the solenoid, either put a volt meter accross them or a 12v bulb then with the ignition on press down the brake pedal. If either the bulb illuminates or you get a 12v reading, it points to the solenoid.

I put a voltmeter across those two wires while they were still connected. Brake pedal depressed and I get just over 11v and the solenoid worked - yellow lever went down. Is that little red thing in between the two wires a resistor? Is that what the problem is? Can I just bypass it with a paperclip?

i had this exact same problem, mine worked intermittently then eventually gave up, I just bent the black piece of plastic around so it didn't catch and lock. Still hear the occasional click every now and then lol

I've bent the top wire for the resistor/diode (little red thingy) so it directly touches the side casing of the solenoid and its now working fine.
Have I just bypassed the resistor or created an earth?
