Title: Car is 'dragging'
Post by: Arrolman on 13 July 2011, 22:00:29
Hi,

Bit of a weird one, car has started to 'drag' or 'wobble' at times. Under braking it will pull to the left then right/left as though it hitting ruts. Also does this in corners when not under braking. All pads/discs were replaced with new genuine less than 100 miles ago and have been checked, all ok. All links/wishbones etc are ok and don't move even when given a good bit of leverage, alloys have been checked for any warping, again ok, tyres were checked and all wheels were re-balanced, yet it still persist?

Dangerous at times as you feel in corners it may throw you off the road. Anyone experienced this before?

Cheers,
Iain

Suspension links or steering links?

See how much play is in the steering by turning the steering wheel slightly from left to right and looking at the road wheels to make sure the movement follows the steering wheel with no free play...

No play in steering idler, jacked up and no movement on it tonight, was replaced 6 months or so ago. Can't remember what tyres it has, will check tomorrow and let you know, half asleep here :D

Iain

i have a similar problem. mine drifts from side to side on uneven roads, (tramlines) ive had drop links, bottom arms dics and pads, tyres about 60% worn, and 4 wheel lazer tracking done twice, no-body seems to know what it is. next step will be new tyres then front shocks, after that im lost for ideas. oh, and the n/s/f/ wheel seems to sit 1/2 inch further back in the wheel arch than off side, yet the tracking shows its all square. mind boggles, well mine does... :D :D :D >:(

agree, worn tread does also cause steering play, though few only check it?

Are the road springs ok?

Springs and shocks all look ok visually, none are broken/leaking. When car is pushed at all corners theres no difference between them and they all return 2 normal height quickly

Iain
