Title: Very unhappy daughter
Post by: Nickbat on 01 February 2008, 21:21:01
My daughter's 7th birthday today and I got here a portable DVD player (in pink, just as she wanted!!). I was lucky as it was the last one in the shop!

She showed it off to all her friends today and was as happy as can be....until she accidentally dropped it on the kitchen floor (no more than 2 feet onto lino) as she was taking it back into the lounge to get recharged..

TFT is stuffed I think. It only shows two very thin vertical coloured lines. Daughter is distraught, tears everywhere. Problem is I don't think I can get hold of another one like it and, as it's an obscure German make (Trekstor), I'm not sure I can even get it repaired.

Sad end to a happy day.  :'( :'(

theres a slim possibility the screen ribbon cable has come dislodged  .. might be worth taking it apart to check ?? if it is it is usually just a push back on ... :(

Hmm, that sounds interesting. The fall didn't even make a scratch on the casing. As far as taking it back is concerned, that was the last one in the shop and they will not be getting any more. Obviously, taking it apart would ruin any warranty. It cost £65, so it's not a top-end model and much as I don't like throwing that sort of money away, it's not the end of the world. I just want my little princess to be happy again...and soon!

Should I try Entwood's suggestion?  :-/

I guess you have 2 options, take it back and get a refund and buy another one, or try and fix it. The worst that is going to happen is you have to buy another one. I guess you have till the morning to find a solution.
 :) :) :)

You could take it back & ask for a replacement, they don't have a replacement so you get your £s back.
Under the sale of goods act, you're elligeble for replace or refund There's more out there  :y

If its from a large store they probably wont even check it they'll just take your word for it and refund or replace, and bounce it back to the manufacturers for there refund

Take it back and let her choose a new one from Argos or Woolies.

She's upset 'cos she broke it and although there may not be another pink one, if she helps pick a new one it won't matter.

Reassure her it's ok and you can get a new one - she may only be 7 but kids are deep these days  ;)

Thanks for all the input, guys.  :y

If I can persuade her, I'll take this one back and then get an Acoustic Solutions one (in pink!) from Argos. Please let them have one in stock!  ;)

Exactly what i was gona say. Yes let us know & one of us could get one & post over to you  :y

If your local Argos hasn't one, ask them to ring the next nearest one & so on. Then you can pay for it there & then, drive over & collect  :y

Success!  :)

Took the unit back and they asked me if wanted to exchange it. I told them that the guy who sold it to me on Thursday said it was the last one. No, they said, they have another one. Great, I said, I'll take it.

Result: One happy daughter (we also bought her a 30" pink acoustic guitar  ::) for £13 in the same place!).

Thanks for all your kind offers of help, guys. We have a really good community here.  :y

Thanks, everyone. Yep, she's over the moon again. Tomorrow morning she's having her "official" pizza-making party with all her school mates. She wants to take the DVD player, so I'll need to keep my eyes glued on it. I am NOT going back again for a replacement!  ;D
