When i start the car & check brake lights brake wear warning shows on the display,i know this not to be accurate because i've got no detectors on the front brakes.Are there any detectors on the back brakes or is there a fault in the system?

Only sensors on the front...
They need a continuous circuit to be 'ok' so guessing the fact you have none fitted is why they are complaining....
Short out the pins on the connector and the alert will go.
(both front wheels on early cars, pass? iirc side only on later ones)

Yes, as Jimbob says, passenger side front on later cars.
Why not fit a pad wear sensor anyway? Ten minute job and only a fiver or so IIRC.

No sensors on rears, only front/fronts depending on model. Got rid of the sensors on mine for the same reason. Just joined both the wires together under the wheel arch after cutting them short so they would not cause problems with fouling anything else. Just make sure to check the pad thickness more regularly and you should be ok. :y

A 1999 car will have 2 sensors, one on each front inboard pad.
