Title: 3.0 Tickover
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 03 August 2011, 11:24:10
Car has failed the MOT on 2 things, a missing back box.

Plus heavy steering on tickover.

How can I adjust the revs from arround 500 to 600/650
to see if it gets it throught the rest, (also wondering if if the problem might be an air leak some where)   :-/  TIA  :y

Probably a tired pump mate.

Increasing revs might be a good enough bodge to get it through the MOT but not a long term fix.

Also wonder if doing that would skew emissions test result at idle..

It should work fine at 500 RPM.

Idle speed is under ECU control. On some cars you can trim it with a Tech 2 but it can't be adjusted in the usual sense. Can you turn the climate on? Might help.

Totally agree James.  But if it gets tested, then I have AA Garage cover, a brandnew and fitted PS Pump will only cost me £25  ::)

Steering input and assistance is also adjustable via tech2.  Not so sure if that will work at idle speed but guessing that it would.  :y

Can you use the clips to adjust the throttle cable to slightly open the butterfly....I know its a bodge, but will up you rpm and hopefully fix the issue enough to get you through an MOT

Yep, could also wind the throttle stop screw up a little, of course. [smiley=evil.gif]

Certainly a badge as the idle speed will probably be all over the place.
