Title: New doors
Post by: oslo on 02 August 2011, 21:11:15
Hi, am looking at replacing my rusty pre-facelift doors with a set of facelift ones.  Have found a non-rusty set in the local scrappies right paint code at a good price if I remove them myself.  Have looked in the maintenance guides but can't see anything on this

So could someone give us the process for door removal and whether I need any special tools ?? Cheers in advance

If you use F/L doors you will have to put your existing door looms in them because of the placement of the window switches being different. Easy enough to do. To remove the doors, unbolt checkstrap, twist to disconnect circular loom connector hinge end on both fronts, on the rears, checkstraps again, bottom of door pillars, pull rubber grommet and disconnect plug for door looms. Just left with door pins to knock out. I use a flat blade screwdriver. Be aware that fronts are heavy. When removing pins on the rears, close doors, knock pins out, lift door away.

Apart from the obvious check strap, you need to support the door & drive the pins out of the hinges. They're just a push in fit, the hard part is access. I made up a tool at work to remove mine, but I'm sure you'll be able to improvise. I hooked the slot over the flared end of the hinge pin & clobbered the bar.  ::)

New pins are only pence. I found that moving the pin the wrong direction a little first helped to get the pin moving in the right direction. Both pins come out towards each other.  :y

If you`re gonna keep the F/L door mouldings don`t forget to whip off the mouldings on the scrapper front wings, prise out the lens and behind the wheelarch lining there`s a 10mm plastic nut holding it on

I would if I could mate but there's a nice row of holes on both sides  :)  I'll bet they went straight away as I'm presuming they were the colour-coded jobbies

Should be interesting as mine are the black ones and I've got a feeling the the tabs and the holes might be in different places  :(  Not a show stopper, we shall see !!

Don't quote me on it, but I'm pretty sure the pre-facelift door mouldings a stuck on with double sided tape, and are an absolute swine to try and re-use.  :-/

Hey good gen mate, my paint code is Z147 so I'll bear that in mind; I know you'll shift them as soon as you can though.  I want to stick with my black ones if I can, I'll see how it goes  :y
