Title: Oil filter removal
Post by: KJO on 08 August 2011, 11:15:28
Does anyone have have an easy way of removing an oil filter from a Y reg 2.2 petrol Omega? I've changed the filter 3 times and on each occasion had to resort to driving a screwdriver through it and using a great amount of torque to get it off (after first snapping a web fabric oil filter removal tool) . When using the screwdriver method I get covered in oil as I have the car up on axle stands. When the filter is fitted it is only screwed on hand tight. That is tightened until resistance is felt, not tightened until it will not tighten any more. Answers please on a postcard as I don't fancy getting covered in oil again. :'(

I use a chain type filter remover when removing screw on types. Seems to work ok.

Various types of filter removal tools on the market. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_from=R40&_npmv=3&_trksid=m570.l2736&_nkw=oil+filter+removal
I made myself a chain type years ago & it's never failed yet  :y :y

Yep a chain type filter remover works every time for me.  The old trick of banging a screwdriver through the fiter body works well provided you are well clear of the resultant oil gusher  :y
