Title: Spurious overheat warning
Post by: GaryBC on 19 August 2011, 09:22:03
About ten minutes into my drive home last night my temp gauge suddenly shot right up to the stop and the overheat light came on.

Very gingerly carrying on driving it soon became apparent that there were no other symptoms and, when I got home about  fifteen minutes later and lifted the bonnet, all appeared ok.

On my drive in to work this morning everything was normal -  which leads me to believe I have an intermittent indication fault.

Anybody shed any light on what this could be? (It was chucking it down with rain last night if that helps!!)

Cheers,
Gaz

Could be that there was that much rain water around the temp sensor that it 'earthed' the (blue?) wire to the sensor.  :-/ If you remove the wire & touch it to a good earth, then the gauge should read HOT

Right at the back of the V on the coolant bridge, it's the single connector sensor, the other is the temp sensor that talks to the engine ECU  :y

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1192574209 single male connector on it.  :y

Thanks.

Nice and easy to get at then!! NOT!!

Mind you, in that location it's unlikely to be affected by rain, one would think!
