I have reluctantly booked my 2.6 MV6 into a Vx main dealer for repair. They are fully booked at the moment and unable to start the work before early September. For an agreed cost of £487 they will.....
1.Remove the old and leaking oil cooler and replace wth a genuine Vx part.
2.Flush the system clean...(oil in the coolant)
3.Refill with the correct amount of anti -freeze.
4.Change the oil and filter with GM 10/40.....I have 0w/40 Mobil 1 in at present.
5.Loan me a courtesy car to allow overnight setting of any gasket goo.
6. A 12 month warranty, in case it all goes tit's up.
I have been in PM contact with a well respected and highly competent mobile OOF mechanic.........I wanted the work done by him. However, The cost of the parts (even at trade price) plus his labour......plus £60 for petrol for the trip to Lincolnshire ( I dare not drive it far in it's present state).....was no different to VX dealer prices. Reluctantly,we both agreed that the dealer would be a more viable option.
I have a couple of weeks grace before she goes to Vx. If any other talented OOF spanner men think they can do the above work for SIGNIFICANTLY LESS than Vx are asking .....then send me a PM.*****
***** Music by Rick Astley is banned. As it destroys morale and robs people of the will to live.... ;D ;D ;)

Send me your location and I will look to see what I can do.

James? Sure OOF can do something here rather than let Vx Monkeys do this work?

Ok, I am away next week but may well be able to do the week after one evening.

Random idea, anyone going to Newant able to take it there on an A frame? :-/

Even at trade price Omega parts are expensive. It came to a few coppers over £200 for the oil cooler kit and other bits....gasket goo.....seals etc...etc.:o :o :o But that price did not include the anti-freeze ......oil and oil filter.
While it was apart I was going to spend a little extra on a new thermostat too.....but at £45 (trade) plus the gasket .....I decided against it. :-/ :-/

Oil cooler - £125
Oil filter - £4
Oil - £12
Antifreeze - £10
Dowty Washers - £5
Goo - £8
So about £164 for the cooler and bits
Stat is about £21 plus £2 for the bridge pipe seals.

Result. No need for me to pay exorbitant Vx dealer prices this time.
Marks DTM has kindly offered to replace my failed oil cooler......along with an oil and filter change and fresh anti-freeze, just as soon as he returns from his jollies. :y :y
Top man is Mark... :y
