Title: rust on wheel arches
Post by: mike d on 25 August 2011, 11:26:47
hi all,my 2000 omega 2.5td is rusting on rear wheel arches.
I have been quoted £550 to get it cut out and replaced.
anybody got any ideas,is it a good price,is it worth doing,
what about rubbing it down and paint,or will it just return?
I dont know which way to go so any help will be greatly
appreciated.
the car is a 2.5td auto f/l in star silver with 111500 miles
cheers
mike

£550 seems expensive to me, I know a very good bodywork place that would do a superb job for much less than that, but do not know where you are!  Update your profile so we can help.

Cutting the rust out would leave a longer lasting finish but does require more work.  Depends on how badly rusted the arches are but a good clean back to fresh metal and good coats of quality primer and top coats would see it held at bay for a number of years.

HTH  :D

Click on User CP button next to Logout one, then click the profile button about half way down the page on the left hand side, then click edit profile, easy when you know how!

Details for the spray shop are Mint Finish Ltd, google them or PM me and I can send you their number as not sure if I can post on here!?!  Ask to speak to Dave or Kevin, mention my name if you dare, might help might not!!  ;D

One of the lads on here had some work carried out in the york area ( A19 for you ) a few weeks ago.
I can't remember prices but I know he was bloody cheap and did a very good job.
Very highly recomended  :y

Can't remember the posters name  :-/

Anybody help on this ?

Grind it back to bare metal, coat in rust converter, bit of filler, rub smooth then prime and paint it. Then coat the inner arch in underseal nice and thickly.

Did mine 2 years ago and it aint come back yet, max cost including buying everything about £25 and I have enough left to do it all over again :y
