Title: Brake pedal soft to start with...
Post by: MV6Matt on 11 September 2011, 15:19:55
Since getting the car serviced in June, I've noticed that there is quite a lot more travel in the brake pedal when I'm driving from cold (this was Brake oil change year).
It wasn't apparent straight away but has never been like it before

This doesn't seem to last once I've been driving for more than 5-10 minutes.

The braking's not effected but it is different to usual.

Need I be worried? What should I check?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Matthew

1 apply foot pressure to brake peddle with a good hard firm push if the the peddle travels away from you and reached the floor pump again and see if it creaps to the floor whilst still applying the pressure if it does take it to your local garage or it more than likly Sounds to me like you have an air lock in one of the caliper its not uncommon after a brake fluid change all you need to do is either 1 take to your garage and ask for a brake bleed or 2 grab your self a partner and get them to sit in the driver seat whilst you get down and dirty under each wheel :y. Each caliper has a brake bleed nipple usually between 7 - 9 mm spanner and quite tight, what you need to do is 'break' the nipple so fluid starts to dribble out but whilst you break the nipple get who ever to apply the break then lock the nipple and tell them to release the peddle after youve locked the nipple.

do this 2 - 3 times each wheel and then check brake fluid level afterwards and should have a brake peddle that feels good or as you put it like it felt before. :)

Sam,
Thank you for your response, it is appreciated.

I'll get the garage to do it - they did the change and I know them well.

Thanks again mate! :y :y
