How many times do I need to flush the cooling system of my MV6 after oil cooler failure?. I must have done it eight or nine times now (four or five times with a cup of washing powder).....and still I get an oily scum tide mark in the expansion tank.
I flush with the engine running, the air-con on max, and a hose in the expansion tank. After a while the water from the radiator drain plug comes out crystal clear, but after a run the old brown scum is back again....Bas*ard.. ;D
I want to get the cooling system totally free of oil before I add the antifreeze.
Do I need a professional degreaser........or do I just need to flush some more?
Anyone got a link for a good degreaser? (Which works)... :y :y :y

billions! ;D
Use a cap full, just a cap full of bleach, run it through the system briefly. Let it break down the oil, then flush really well with fresh water afterwards.

You need the heating on HOT to get water through the heater matrix

Not so bad then Mr Tunnie. Only nine hundred and ninety nine million, nine hundred and ninety nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety two times left.... :y
Mrs Opti is sick to death of cleaning the oily crap out of the expansion tank... :)

I hear this stuff is well rated, though I've not used it myself:

IMHO it is IMPOSSIBLE to correctly flush the way you are trying as the constant inflow of water from the hosepipe ensures the thermostat never opens fully.
When I cleaned my mates I did it by :
**Empty system through drain
Refill with clean water + low suds biological powder
Run with heater on max until normal temperature + 15 minutes
Switch off and leave for 30 minutes**
Repeat ** 15-20 times
The "normal temp" bit happened very quickly to start with as the system was clogged with crap, but as stuff was moved out it settled down nicely.
just my views .. nowt else . :)

I have the controls set to "HI" Mark.
The water from the hose comes out pretty hot from the radiator drain plug. :y

Thanks Entwood. I naively thought that ONE good flush would sort the problem.
I've just emptied the system after a 360 mile round trip to Wales.....with a cup of powder in the coolant.
