Hi, changed the cambelt and tensioners, fitted brand new from VX. About 500 miles later checked because squealing noise - suspected the problem mentioned in another post where this is caused because the paint marks on the belt are too thick - wd40 solves this, however, noticed that the grease is leaking from both tensioners and I don't know if this is normal/acceptable. Anyone know? Cheers

Definitely should not be happening. Are you sure it's not an oil leak from higher up?
Can you post some pics?

I too have noticed some grease running out of one of the rollers on a kit I recently fitted to mine, and it certainly rolls by hand with less of a greased up feel than the other one.
Had to leave it at the time, but it does cross my mind sometimes. Just hoping they start making an obvious noise when and if they fail. :-[

Rare for actual cambelts to go on these mate - its usually the tensioners that give up the ghost - first signs of failing tensioners is loss of grease!
Was the kit you fitted Vx (ie Gates or Contitech)?, or was it pattern?

Mine is a Gates kit. But from Evilbay. Was thinking of getting another one and fitting it for peace of mind. Easy enough to do on a 4 pot. Any advice as to best brand and supplier? Sorry to the OP for jumping in, but I am in the same boat. :y

Thanks guys. The grease is definately from the rollers. I checked some older posts and found a thread from last year where I had exactly the same problem (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1235840995). That set too was from VX and I replaced it with a Gates kit from the local motor factors and it was OK. I'm going to replace this set too with another Gates kit. It's a shame about loosing the trade club discount but i don't trust the VX sets anymore.

Difficult to say if it's a problem.
It's not unusual to find a little grease has seeped out when changing a belt, but, of course, you never normally look at it this soon after fitting, so never know if it has happened immediately after fitting or as the bearing has reached the end of its' life.
I could imagine that the bearings might be slightly over-packed with grease during manufacture and with the first use and a few thermal cycles a little seeps out and establishes the correct amount of grease in the bearing.
Then again, you don't want to take any chances.
I would probably wipe off the excess grease and check it again after a little more use.

Likewise.
It's surprising how little grease a brand new bearing has inside it, & it's tempting to pack it as full as you can get it but it's now how they're supposed to be. :)

do you have the brand name still for them and can you see what colour brand they are ie the cover colour of the bearing house should be blue. i had some from vx and they were white and went in 2weeks years ago when was a bearing tester blue are grade A white are grade D, white are only good for low end tools ets. red is grade B. yellow is grade C, grade C-D have a lot of grease in them to keep them cooler... would check them and get changed.

They ALL lose a bit of grease as you describe.

WD-40 on the belt ? :-/...........not sure that would be a good idea, or have I misread/misunderstood ?

This is the post where I came accross the problem (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1266700696/2). Being unsure about the grease problem earlier I bought a Gates kit and fitted that with no problems and the squeeking/squeeling has gone now. Incidentally, that paint markings on this belt are much thinner that the VX belt so it might have worked.
Just looged on now and seend Mark DTM's comment so the VX kit was probably OK - I had planned to take it to VX for them to check but probably will not bother now.
Cheers guys :y

The Gates kit will do the same very shortly, the bearings are slightly over greased so the excess gets squeezed out when they are first used.
Seen it on every setup I have looked at (which is a few) be it after 40K+ miles or 400 miles

Cheers Mark. I'm having to do the cambelt every year so at least I know I can reuse this kit next year :)
