Title: Auto box very jerky when engaging gears.
Post by: Robbo_cdx on 15 September 2011, 23:30:13
Hi All,

Please bear with me if I any any dumb questions, it's been a long time since I drove an auto box and i'm on a steep learning  curve.  :)
I have a 2.2 auto, problem is when you either engage D when starting or shifting form D to N when stuck in traffic, it goes with a right thump and jerk.  On a couple of occasions it's even stalled the engine.  :(

Does sometihng need adjusting? Also is it possible to grease the shift linkage as it's a bit stiff.

Cheers

Robbo.  :)

that's not right, you can usually feel it go into gear, but is shouldn't go in with a thud.
For starters do an ATF level check, http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152783586
although a fluid change wouldn't do it any harm http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1289757627

Thanks for that, in one of those links it mentions two types of gearbox an AR25 and an AR35.

Which one would be fitted to my 2.2? I don't have a manual for the car yet. Is there such a thing as a Haynes type manual for these cars?

Thanks.

On the 2.2 cam sensor problems on the  engine can mess with the gearbox changes, worth getting the codes read(engine and gearbox) before doing too much

edit  your car will have the AR25 :y

There's a Haynes for the earlier cars, but not for the facelift. There are lots of things that are shred between the cars and for the other bits not covered there's the OOF forum  :y :y :y

Thanks for that. I'm not getting any error lights on the dashboard, can I get the codes myself or, I'm guessing, there's some expensive bit of software/diagnostic box required?

Thanks for that  :) I've been browsing the maintenance guides and found a wealth of info so far.  :) :)
