Have a look at the coolant hose that connects the HBV to the coolant bridge. This hose can become frayed over time and is easily missed. Cost under £8.00 from vx :y

thanks for replys folks, bit clearer now,so long as not head,it runs far too well for that no mixing eighther

The head gaskets especially on a 2.6 or 3.2 very rarely have an issue, as its a different gasket intirely that the earlier one ;)

When my HBV was at the dribble or damp patch stage, before it let go completely, it would only leak when it switched state. So I could only catch it in the act of leaking as the heater matrix switched in or out. Of course you can test this by setting the cabin temp to Lo for a minute or two, then Hi for a while, than back again.

opening the bonnet and facing the engine where is the HBV located? to the right or left, sorry for the hijack :y

It lives at the back of the engine just behind and centre of the 135 head. Plenum off, looks like a mini starship enterprise. 3 coolant pipes to it and 1 vacuum pipe on top. Whole thing clips to a bracket at the back of a block.
