Does anybody know which if any aftermarket stereos give an output which will utilises the MID display? or can do if the correct adapter is used?
-
Sony do with adaptors
Some makes do their own adaptors - I think Alpine do
-
All the main makes do, ie, Sony (would not recommend a headunit from them!), Pioneer, Alpine, JVC, Kenwood. However it is not a cheap item!
Your problem will the limited room behind the headunit if you do this in a pre-facelift car. Things get a little tight back there.
Personally I would be more concerned with the steering controls adaptor.

I know about the limited space, I'm sure I could sort something there. My omega was registerd early 97 so was a late 96 build I think so hence steering wheel controls (or adjustable steering column) to worry about just the MID display.

You can get the MID display adaptor, but I believe they are around the £50 mark, which is too much for giving a limited display in my opinion.
What type of headunit are you looking for and are you planning any other upgrades, amps, sub?
-
You may be right about the adapter, maybe I should look at disconnecting the signal to the MID so the date stays up?
I currently have a panasonic head unit which plays mp3s etc, and was thinking of upgrading to something with DAB but not too sure what to go for. Not sure about Subs as it's an estate and not sure where I would put one. Amp is a possibility but I need to replace a speaker as well, front passenger door speaker sounds duff and distorted.

I found the display adaptor very good, it showed RDS info, tuning info, volume, track name etc.....

thats the sort of thing I would like, anymore info??

Just got the display working along with the wheel controls on my sony mp3 cd player, bonus is i can use the stereo without fitting the face to it. Less crap in my jacket pocket in the van all day at work.

Sounds like you've got it sorted there. I can see from the thread where you sorted it all out that you used two adapters to give you the functionality you wanted, which bit gives you the display?

The connects2 drives the display and relays the steering controls. The only reason I modified it was that the controls from the autoleads unit were better in my opinion.
I have since been told that the telephone wiring loom affects the connects2 box but as I bought both cheap on fleabay it was easier to mod than buy the correct model.
If your just after the display driver its the connects2 you need.
If it will help pm me your email and I'll send you the fitting instructions.

Suppose I should look for the connects2 adapter.

You have email.
Just had a look on their website http://www.connects2.co.uk and they only list stalk & display adapters for kenwood and sony head units.

I think the photos make it look better than it actually is but it is still pretty tidy, I've seen far worse for the age and mileage.
