Title: bolton town centre
Post by: zippo on 06 February 2008, 17:55:06
the car parked next to mine had a front flat tyre which was just touching the white line (but still inside the confines of the bay) as the old chap was getting in his car i pointed the flat out to him, as we were stood talking about it a traffic warden gave him a parking fine for being improperly parked
what are Bolton council thinking employing dopes like that  it didn't matter how much the chap tried to reason with the dope he said he couldn't change anything now that the ticket had been issued. The old chap has now got to appeal the ticket that shouldn't have been issued in the first place  >:( >:( >:(

and now for the good/bad news (depending on perspective)

Bolton does NOT have a monopoly on them....  mores the pity....   I almost never have to go to Bolton....    so I'd be quite happy for them to have the monopoly, but sadly, such is not the case.....

the warden said he had walked past 10 minuets before (i didn't see him tho) and said that it was time enough for the old chap to have
moved/repair the car ( i did ask how the old chap could have done that
when he didn't know about the flat) answer not my problem

not in the slightest bit shocked these days

they dont believe in actually enforcing parking rules, just making money off those who park slightly off the mark!

said he couldn't change anything now that the ticket had been issued.

Just a another reason why every ones council tax is so high, because the warden just wanted to get his qouter up.
This'll now cost a bit to get sorted.

I was driving an Outside broadcast vehicle just before Xmas....   let's just say it's about the size of a Chrysler Grand voyager... (in fact it IS one...  but somewhat modified)

had a stand up row with a parking operative about it overhanging the marked space.......... at both ends....

he wanted to give us a ticket, despite us having paid , fair and square of the space..

At which point, we waved the paid ticket in front of him, and pointed out that in implied a contract to provide parking for said vehicle...  by his employers...    and that nowhere was there any sign or indicated T&C's that limited the length, or indeed width , of the vehicle..

My final line was along the lines of..

Quote
you can persist of you like, but I'll be invoicing you personally for my time in sorting this out, and our lawyers have some VERY fancy offices, which rather implies when you lose in court, you AND your employers may be landed with a very significant costs claim....

carry on writing the ticket if you like son.....    it's your job isn't it??.....

he went away........

came back 45 minutes later with an "inspector" , who took one look at us, what we were doing , and our permits to do so....  and promptly told him not to be so bloody stupid.....

and apologised to us....   , how I kept a straight face, I'll never know...

:D

I've never enjoyed Carols from St James's Picadilly quite so much !

Did the old guy or anyone get photos of the parking incident? IMO it would be well worth an appeal and if that was not successful I bet the press would have a field day. I could imagine the headline "Oap F.1 pit stop challenge" traffic warden expects F.1 speed,  to change a wheel by an oap etc, etc. >:(

If you're not bothered about the time you might have to spend to do it, why not? You can't be punished for being a truthful witness, can you?
Can you?

Wardens are run by NCP down here, they will ticket anything they think is illegally parked. They even carry digital cameras and take photos of the car.
Ppl have got tickets for parking in their driveways with the bumper just hanging over the pavement.Funniest one was a bus driver, pulled up at a stop, jumped out the cab go for a pee came back parking ticket on the windscreen.
Feel sorry for day trippers who park up on the seafront, return to car later to find it has been towed away.
If you ever come down here take a train, getting into this town is bad enough, and if you do get in you will spend the rest of the day trying to find somewhere to park.or risk heavy ££££s getting youre car out of the compound

I think the line was from Lock, Stock and 2 smoking barrels:

"I rather hate traffic wardens"... ;D

Honestly, there are some jobs that wouldn't be my cup of tea but I appreciate the fact that other people get great satisfaction doing them.

Maybe it's just me but I think it would take a very "special" type of person to get home from a job being an arrogant, grumpy, inflexible jobsworth who makes other people's lives a misery feeling any kind of satisfaction of a job well done.

Granted we need traffic wardens or the place would be chaos by why have they all had the charisma gene removed?

So yes, be a witness. [smiley=evil.gif]
