Title: Install aftermarket radio wires? , Removed BOSE!
Post by: 2001CatOwner on 03 July 2007, 05:09:41
Hey all, I enjoy this site more than the US's site for cadillac, and i need help with one thing.  I had installed a Alpine deck and it works but for the life of me i can get it to turn off unless i pull the face off.  Now what i need help with is what wires for the power and constant are you aftermarket deck users using?  I have the 12v(red) hooked up to a fuse (radio batt) and the illum (yellow) to the cig lighter. But like i said it works fine but it gets annoying resetting my settings and clock everytime i drive it. Please help as i have a shaved head and can't pull any of my hair out... :-/ :-?  BTW what are you guys using to keep the steering wheel controls working?   :y   Also i have a 2001 facelift if that helps.

Hi, I assume you have an adapter harness to go with the radio, swap the red with the yellow wires, they are usually fitted with bullet connectors to allow you do this. This will keep the memory but not sure about the radio switching off.

For the steering wheel controls, over here we can get adaptors which interface the resistor networks (The switches work by placeing different value resistors on the wire depending on which switch you press) to most aftermarket radios.

As for the radio it self, are you connecting into the factory fit ISO style connector or hard wiring it into the car?

i am using the GM harness ISO. But the with the harness the power wouldn't turn on, so i had to hardwire the illum and 12v.

On UK cars, the permenent 12v and switched 12v are reversed to normal ISO. Not sure if US cars are the same?
