Title: Stereo Wiring Help Needed
Post by: Golfbuddy on 22 July 2007, 13:51:59
I've broken the stereo on the rolling road block, AKA the caravan. It looks like I've pulled the power and earth cable out of the back. The previous owner has cobbled something together see pics.

So, the question is, which is the earth and which is the live?

I'm sat here scratching my head and I'm dead if I can't get the radio fixed before we go away next weekend. So this really is a mission of mercy :y

If I was guessing .... I'd say
Red --- permanent live
Yellow ---- ignition live, which on a van you'd connected to the main live feed
which would leave balck as the earth/ground/0 volts

Whats the make of the radio? Can't you ask Google for info?

The stereo in my 'van is a JVC KD-G321 for which I have the destruction & fitting handbook.

Cheers mate. Kenwood KRC-179RA. I'm afraid that I don't have any instructions so it's all a bit of a guess. Probably need to go to Halfords later on for a bulk buy on 10 amp fuses :'(

Looking on Google at the same time. Thank God for wireless internet connections  ::) ::)

Andy, you're a bloody miracle worker. Connected it up like you said and straight away it sprang into life. I can now go on holiday with all gonads intact ;D ;D ;D ;D

The red & yellow are used by Vauxhall, but 4r$e about face, which is why after market installations can have problems. That only left the black as the earth.
Glad you're sorted.

New question rather than start a new thread -

I put my new Cd player (Blaupunkt) in the omega, and even when I turn the power off the cd unit, it's background lights stay on. I have swapped the yellow and red lights over completely, and its exactly the same.
Any ideas?

Did you get this sorted?

Perhaps got the permanent live (used for storing clock, radio presets etc) connected to the illumination terminal on the HU?

Double check your connections
