Title: leccy windows won't work!!
Post by: VX1 on 29 July 2007, 16:50:35
I may have asked about this before but my problem is this.

When sat in the car with the ignition on the front windows won't work, but when I open the front driver's,passenger or either of the rear doors the window's will work. I thought this could be due to a broken wire but I am not so sure now, maybe its the switch I thought as well but I just don't know, this one has got me confussed I don't know what the problem is. I am at the end of my teather now due to when wanting the front windows open I need to open the door every time just to lower the window or close the window. This is going to create a problem when driving down the motorway at 70-80 mph, so one is needing help quickly.

Could this STILL be a broken wire or is it down to the switch? Please help someone cos I am fed up with burning myself flicking the ash out of the window but then realising I can't and burn myself.

Cheers Paul  :y

Isn't there a time delay device that allows the windows to be used after operating the doors regardless of the ignition switch setting?

Maybe this is working but there's a relay that feeds the windows when the ignition is on that isn't. Will have to have a look at the wiring diagrams...

Are all your fuses OK? I had the same with my Senator years ago when a fuse blew for cigg lighter and others. There were 2 feeds for the Senators windows, soI would guess the Omega is similar.

Ok  :-/  Me and wiring diagrams don't mix so I cannot read wiring diagrams I am afraid.

Its the same for both windows, everything works except the leccy windows. As prevoius they only work when the doors are open, when the doors are closed the light is on faintly and the windows don't work even with the ignition on but when opened the light brightens. This is the problem thats why I thought it might be the switch but wasn't sure thats why I need some help  :)

Whilst I was pushing the cabling back to fit the new head unit in and managed to get it all fitted when I turned the ignition on with the door closed I was able to open the front windows. Could there be some sort of wiring for the leccy windows behind the heater/radio facia?

I have boiled it down to either the door pin switches cos when I touch the door pins the lights go off the window switches or it could be the leccy window switch itself cos every now and then they will work with the doors closed. What do you people think?

Given that it's affecting all the windows and the switch lighting, etc. I'm more inclined to say it's whatever supplies power to them rather than individual windows / switches, etc. I think they are designed to work with the doors open, so that part is working OK. I just need to look how they're powered from the ignition supply...

It is ONLY the front window's the rear are manual. The window's are supposed to open wether the door's are open or not.

Well all sorted out now as I thought it was the leccy window switches that were at fault.
