Title: What exactly is this OnStar thing?? (CCRT700)
Post by: PaulW on 17 September 2007, 21:02:30
Not really had chance to properly play with the stereo yet, but just wondering what this OnStar is or does on the CCRT700??

I've done a bit of googling, but nothing concrete... Just says Security/GPS Tracking  (for recovery) and some other random gubbins??

Would say I'd read the Audio Manual in my car documentation, but its not got the CCRT700 documentation (guessing was a seperate manual??)

Any info/gen would be grand

On-Star was originally to allow you to contact Vauxhall / Opel / GM tech direct when the car had a problem, they planned to make the system able to intercept the ECU and do remote diagnostics (Yep a Virtual TECH 2!), then finally they could pinpoint you via the GPS and send the tow truck / man with a crank sensor.

If it'd been developed it could have offered a lot more - route / traffic information etc but I think the technology with Sat Nav / Trafficmaster / TMC etc overtook it.
