Title: 1997 Car stereo system

Hi I have an omega 19972.0 16v GLS.  I am trying to change the stereo currently in it which is currently a VDO Dayton to a Sony Drive SHX CDX 7750s.  however my Car audio engineer tells me I must get the name and model of the original car stereo that came with the car from new in order to buy the correct connectors.    CAN ANYONE HELP!

It will have the standard ISO connector on back, with exception of 12v and ign 12v swapped...

For the Stereo system that was in the 1997 omega will the standard ISO connector connect the volume and track controls on the steering wheel?

I very much doubt it you , will need an adapter . It also depends on the head unit you are trying to fit your best bet would be go to a shop that sells the leads etc they have lists of what you will need. I have a kenwood and have just fitted this to my car I have trafficmaster too so i needed two adapters one for the steering control/display and the other to do the traffic master these cost £70 together a bit expensive but I have more or less all the original features of the original head unit minus the speed dependant volume

Hi, you will find it "interesting" trying to find room behind the radio for all the adaptors and extra wiring. Update your profile to include whereabouts you are, there might be someone local able to give you a hand.

When I put mine back in I cut off some of the iso connectors and soldered the cables together to allow it to all go back in no way would it all go back in with out doing this with the extra adapters

It is possible to get it all in place, just a bit of a nightmare. Mine has a proprietary connector that then provides ISO plugs on flying leads. Those then connect to another ISO lead for my Parrot phone kit (to route audio through the speakers) before finally connecting to the car's loom. I have three pairs of phono leads coming off, a little box of tricks for the steering wheel interface, and a DC-DC converter for the head unit's power supply.

So there's a lot of stuff in there, and it's not fun getting it all to fit, but I managed it. Admittedly I did have to remove the dash panel to find all the little nooks & crannies that I could stash the various connectors so there'd be room left to push the head unit in :O.

My 1997 2.5TD estate had a Blaupunkt 300 in it originally. Just swapped it over for a single cd JVC. Straight swap virtually, just needed a aerial convertor.

Dunno if that helps anyone tho...
