Title: So exactly a week after buying her...
Post by: master-sambo on 03 February 2008, 16:58:29
...the Omega has gone back to the garage :(  The EML ame on and I had it diagnosed at my dads place.  3 faults, 1 with the auto box, 1 with the throttle control valve and another to do with the ECU itself :(

Should hear on Tuesday what the score is.  Good thing when I bought the car, I got given a parts and labour warranty.  I got a loan car though, my old Peugeot:D  The whole reason I sold that one was to get an auto 'box.  The Pug has a clutch heavier than lead:(

strange for Omega autoboxes to go.... they are usually very relable and strong.

Do you know what the fault codes were?

Could be, if P0700 or P1700.......seem to be a bit common on 2.2's

Iirc communication errors between ecu's........my 2.2 suffers the same codes.....but doesnt seem to effect it.......so i ignore them.....also think it would be nigh on impossible to solve anyway.

Taxi Driver, P1700 rings a bell.  But then again so does P1975, but I could be talking out of what I sit on.

Slightly off topic but the Peugeots have heavy clutches due to the routing of the clutch cable.

If was orginally designed as a left hand drive car (being French this is not suprising ;) ) and rather than make sensible changes, he have just routed the clutch cable across.
The heaviness is a sign the cable needs replacing.

This is why I work in IT and not the motor industry :D:D

OK, so she had  CO sensor changed at the garage today, which was apparently diagnosed.  Drove fine for about 50 miles, then the EML light came on again.  Oh well, back to the garage for her then :(

It is very unlikely that the O2 sensor would have gone agin so soon unless the fuel was dirty/contaminated.  How long did the car sit for before you bought it?  Since the Tesco fuel incident....?

And I agree on the Peugeot clutches, when they are old they are a bugger to use.  I had a 405 with a clutch so heavy (but working) I couldent drive anouther manual in case I put my foot through the floor!  I think it was a french design problem:

Claude: Ah but if we 'ave ze cable zis way zen for ze english it would cause problems later on
Pierre: More ze better zen!

 :D :D

P.S. before anyone pipes up and chastises me I used to live in france and know exactly what they think of us   ;)

No, a local garage.  It is the place I bought the car.  If it isn't fixed after this time, I'm gonna take it to Vauxhall and send him the bill.  It is under warranty from him, so I see no reason why he would complain.  Who knows.  We will see.

Very good point indeed!  I wonder if that is the case!  Dodgy fuel maybe.  I'll quiz my dad!

Well, she is still in the garage.

The guy says this time the fault was a blocked idler pipe??!?!  He also says there is now a fault with the auto box and has taken it to the transmission specialists  ::) ::)

I am not a happy bunny.  Anyone else ever had a gearbox problem on an auto??

That is my question.  Personally I am not too confident in the guy fixing it, but it is under his warranty.  I will wait until he says it is fixed, and have a full inspection done by my dads place.  Then I will hammer him if it is still faulty.

Apart from the faults, the car is AMAZING.  Love the comfort, the space, the drive and just about everything :)  Now, get the faults out of the way and I think I can look past it being a thirsty motor too:D

I am kinda spoilt in that respect.  I am used to driving 1.9l turbo diesels!  My VW Bora 1.9TDi Sport could easily reach 60mpg on a run.  I am lucky to get 28mpg from the mig.
