What is a good glue for repairing ABS?
-
Which part? What is it made of?
My experience of glue is that it only seems to work on anything it is NOT supposed to work on! ;D

I have spoken to an adhesives expert that I know. His first question was, 'what do you want to stick to what? And, where do you want to stick it?'
His recommendation for ABS is Airfix or Humbrol type model glues which, he says, are ABS granules in an acetone suspension.
If the repair is for an external application, in other words where there is a risk of it being exposed to moisture, then he recommends something like 'No More Nails' which I found surprising but he assures me will work well with ABS.
He did reiterate that you must be sure that the material is ABS.
Hope this helps. :y

Thanks
I had remembered I have some noxious modelling glue which I think can handle ABS.
Anyway
0815463 >ABS< 32676
091144530as well
It is a cracked mirror cover
NMN sounds good for reinforcing. I hope it will stick it to the frame as well

I use this stuff.....
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Plastic-weld-welding-glue-ABS-Perspex-model-boat-kit_W0QQitemZ360018363769QQihZ023QQcategoryZ2564QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
It solvent welds the joint.
Make sure it is ABS and not some glass loaded plastic.........

How can you identify different types?

Hi
I repaired a cracked mirror cover by using a thin coat of fibre glass resin on the inside, it was a bit messy but rubbed it down and sprayed up it looks brand new.
Hope this helps
Mike
P.S. when the resin hardened it appeared to be adhered extremly well.

I use Epoxy resin, the type that comes in twin clear tubes. It hardens but retains some flexibility. However it is only useful in places where there's a 'hidden' side to the part, so that you can put the resin liberally.

Found some rather good model solvent glue, drilled holes and stitched it together as well, covered with bumper repair stuff, now finishing off with a thin layer of Plastic Padding, will prime tomorrow
