I’m having a problem with the driver-side door mirror – the electrically operated left/right adjustment has stopped working. No motor noise at all, just dead.
The up/down movement still works just fine.
There’s no evidence of a physical jam-up as I can move the mirror on its left/right axis with my fingers.
Can anyone suggest a logical sequence of events to investigate & rectify this?
Many thanks.

Try a different switch mate, they do go pear shaped :y

Does the pass mirror work in all directions??
If not then try Garys idea, if it does then i would suggest it is the mirror itself or maybe a broken wire feeding the mirror.

Yes, the passenger side is OK. I'll start outside with the mirror and work my way in to the interior. Are there two motors per mirror or just one?

two motors per mirror, one for each axis. You might even be able to swap out the guts from a pre-facelift mirror ... ???
I had a similar problem on my first omega, turned out to be the multi-pin plug wasn't seated right - but you need to take the mirror off the door before you can access the connector - not difficult though ... it worked perfectly afterwards ...

The movement is controlled/connected by a ball joint arrangement on the back of the mirror. Could have become disconnected if someone has clipped it? Press on the glass to force it back and pop it back on?

Sometimes it's good to clean inside and put some greas.
