Ive a CDR2006 Bose system I was thinking of buying an MP3 compatable head unit (maybe bluetooth for the phone as well)
Anybody done this ? I assume that is i buy one with pre amp out I may also be able to get one compatable with the remote on the steering ?
What do I have to do with the facia arond the CDR2006 ? do I remove the cage and buy a new standard din size ? do they sell blanking panels to fit the strange dash shape it will leave behind ?
Thoughts views and recommendations please

I replaced the CDR2005 in my '03 Omega with the following, which i'm very happy with.
Kenwood KDC 7437U ( http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/stock01/kdcw7537u.asp )
Bluetooth Adaptor (http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/stock01/kcabt100.asp )
Steering controls and display ( PC99-X06-DIS - http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/install/show_model.asp?id=285 )
Dash adaptor ( http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/vauxhall-omega-2000-c-292_318_621.html)

If you have a Bose system you'll either have to remove the Bose amp under the parcel shelf and re-wire or devise a way of driving it from the preamp outputs of your head unit.

If you go with Alpine kit, you can get adapters for the steering wheel remote and the remote display.

Cheers for the ideas guys

.............are you saying that the bose unit is not just a straight forward preamp out from the head unit ? What inputs is it ? is it split channel for channel prior to leaving the head unit ? got a source of info I can refer to by any chance (wiring diagram / block diagram etc.)

Yep. Bose amp inputs are not normal line level inputs. The amp takes the signal from the speaker outputs from the CCR2006, which is configured to output a lower level on Base equipped cars.
Not sure if anyone has ever successfully wired a Bose amp to an aftermarket head unit :-/ I would imagine it's do-able but it would require a bit of experimentation.
The other option is to replace the Bose amp with a more generic one (HOWTO guide on here for that). You could then sell the 2006 and Bose amp, maybe theBose loom as well. Always people wanting to upgrade :y

Kenwood HU's have line level out aswell as the normal ISO loom speaker outputs. Just turn internal amp off via the menu to use line out's.
