Title: Later style head units CD30 CD40 CD50 and DVD90
Post by: Dave DND on 12 January 2008, 12:01:45
Many have asked if the later Vauxhall head units CD30, DVD90 etc can be used in the Omega, so I thought I would post this on here as a quick guide.

As a general guide (excluding telephone head units meaning that any upgrade is a compatability nightmare with displays) if your stereo model number has 4 digits - CDR2005 etc, then it can only be replaced by another head unit with four digits CCR2006 etc. You cannot put a 2 digit stereo into a four digit hole.

The earlier three digit stereos, CDR500 etc, had the larger style 10 pin ISO top block for the display output althouth the protocol language was essentially the same as the four digit ones.

The Vauxhall four digit stereos CDR2005 etc, had a MIni ISO block on the top with smaller pins and plugs for the display and with a clever bit of wiring and earlier three digit stereo could be made to fit and work, although the effort was never worth it due to the lower performance of the earlier three digit units.

The later CD30, CD40, CD50, DVD90 CANNOT BE USED in the Omega
Although the shape may physically fit, the Quadlock connection on the back  will not, but the biggest problem is that the protocol laguage is vastly different as the two digit models also communicate with the engine ECU for their coding and run the displays and external connectivity via Canbus - A feature the Omega is lacking !

An aftermarket stereo can always be made to fit and connect, as most of the aftermarket stereos have their own displays and will accept the steering controls function via additional interfaces.

Just to add the NCDC2013/5 (and associated components) are coded via the immobilser...  (actually they are not, but that is the principal)...
