Title: Taillight bulb warning
Post by: stevejones on 02 February 2008, 09:18:09
About a week ago I got a warning report on the dash that my headlight, and a tail light, had blown. I replaced the headlight, but the rear lights are all OK. The headlight warning has now gone, but the rear light one is still showing.

Is there any way of 'deleting' it?

You know there are 2 on each side? A tail lamp & a stop/tail lamp. Where did your new lamps come from? It could be that you need a better quality lamp.

This warning comes up on my Omega fairly constantly as I have tow bar wiring which is changing the resistance and the car thinks the bulb/s out.

The towbar wiring shouldn't affect the existing wiring. Try using the factory connections in the boot & adding the trailer fault 'relay' up front above driver's feet/behind glove box. It's only about £16.

As said...

If you are 100% sure that all existing bulbs illuminate, then try changing to a Vauxhall bulb or alternatively but an assortment of bulbs from different makes and start changing until the message goes away.

Had this problem with the previous Omega. The circuit testing the bulb is sensitive to changes in resistance and thus may fail an otherwise perfectly illuminating bulb just because it does like it... oddly enough the bulbs best liked by my old Omega where Ring Automotive bulbs, which is a budget make....

Thanks all for the replies. Call me a cheapskate but I'll suffer the dashboard warning rather that mess about with the bulbs! I love my Omega but I've never had to mess with a car as much in my life...

Cheapskate!  ;D  ;D
Lamps on Trade Club are only pence, it's only be a couple of quid to replce all four lamps.

I used to have problems with my brake light warning keep coming on ,  I have now switched to Bosch lamps and have not had any problems with them since.
As already mentioned lamp quaility does seem to play a big part in the system

Just to confuse you all......

I also had the same issue this weekend (started with a lamp going out) bought a pair of Bosch lamps from Halfords to replace the duff bulb which then caused the headlight/tail lamp message - when back to Halfords and bought their own brand - these now work a treat.

Looks like each mega has it's own preference!
