When the factory fit radio was turned off the display changed from radio/CD info to the date. I assumed when changing the head unit to an after market one that the display would permantly show the date, but it doesn't - the whole middle line of the display is just blank.
Is this normal, is there anyway to get it to show the date? I wondered if maybe the installer had simply disconnected the radio without switching it off first to trigger the date display? or does the date display require an 'off' signal from the VX radio?
Thanks
Rob

I had an aftermarket in my 54 Vectra.
It did the same as you describe. Radio off, Date and time.
Radio on : time
Cheers

All perfectly normal I'm afraid

I had a clarion in the estate I just sold and it did the same except when playing cd's the date was there and when the radio was on there was no date displayed but the steering wheel buttons lit up.

What head unit have you fitted as you can get wiring of ebay for about £20 that will connect your new one to the display and steering wheel controls if you have them.
Depends on the make though.

it's a Clarion VRX578RUSB - I would be very interested in getting the display and steering controls to work if possible?
I've yet to see the date appear in any state, though I haven't put a DVD in yet so will try and see if that makes it appear.

Unfortunately you can't get them for clarion's as there not that common they just do them for stuff like pioneer, sony, kenwood, etc.
I tried to get one for the clarion I had.

I get the radio station, MD Track, CD and CD track

That's not quite the reason why you can't get them, it is more to do with the fact that the Clarion does not have the output to support a remote display.
Of the double-din head units only Alpine supports a remote display, a few more for single din (but they look horrible in an Omega imho) but then only if they support a remote display out....

I like the single DIN and tray - somewhere to keep tissues and the LPG switch

The Time/Date on other Vauxhalls is easily sorted, but never looked at the omega to see if it is the same, but would imagine so.
On the ISO block to the radio, the electric aerial output has two wires joined together - (seem to recall Grey with a stripe?) One of them will power the elctric aerial amplifier and the other one changes from Date to radio display when switched on.
If the correct wire out of the two is cut, the display will constantly show time and date. if the wrong one is cut, you lose your reception.
As far as the Clarion steering remotes go, they are readily available from me for £34.99 providing your clarion has the 3.5mm jack plug style of steering control input. :y

Thanks Dave
Will give the wire cutting a go :y
So the steering controls look fine (Clarion spec sheet says it supports them) but no way for this model to do anything better with the display?
-
The Clarion will not support the display output.
There are two types of remote input for the Clarion. One is the 3.5mm jack plug which the interface is available for, and the other type is the Infra Red, for which the only solution is a clip on remote that goes around the steering wheel - again, readily available.
BTW - I have been a Clarion Main Dealer for 16 years now 8-)
