Title: alarm problem
Post by: chris39 on 27 March 2008, 20:38:45
Hi guys
New to the forum so hope I'm posting in the right section.

I have a problem with my alarm going off randomly when I lock the car with my fob or with my key..only been happening for the last couple of days but its really hacking of my neighbours (especially at 2am) I had a problem last week when my central locking would not work, the buttons just kept popping back up and the drivers side door would not lock,  solved this with some wd40 and freed up the button.Could this be related to my alarm problem? Have unplugged the sensor under the bonnet and pressed the running man on the dash but still have the problem. I have a beep when I turn on the ignition.
Hope I've give you enough info.

Hi Chris,

Sounds like the power sounder is knackered. Plenty of information on here but it's just behind the driver's side front suspension turret under the scuttle panel. Easiest fix is to just disconnect it.

Edited to say: It's the small plastic square horn with a 4 pin connector. :y

I replaced the bonnet switch on mine and the random setting itself off went away...if that doesnt work then simply unplug it

If thats the one moves up and down and covered in black rubber I've already disconnected it but still had the problem.
Thnx Mark

Beeping when ignition switched on is the power sounder complaining. 99% certain that's what it'll be.

A tech 2 (maybe even a cheapo Tech 2) will tell you what's going on if you want confirmation, but I'd try disconnecting the power sounder.

Alarm will still work on the horn, BTW. The only thing you lose is the battery backup once vehicle battery has been disconnected.
