Title: Radio controls on streeing wheel
Post by: johnboy27 on 05 April 2008, 22:55:32
i own a 97 elite 3.0 that does not have any controls for radio on the steering wheel. i have since bought a 98 elite for spares that has the controls on the wheel. does anyone know if i can use the wheel of the newer one on mine & will my 97 model already have the wiring for the newer wheel.
hope somebody can help
thanks :)

I wouldn't have thought so as the steering wheel controls were added after your 97 Elite was produced.

wiring wont be in place, and the 97 radio can't deal with it anyway

Should be do-able, though the SC804 that you probably have now has a different pinout to ccr800.  Also, MIDs are different, not sure if compatible?

I think it would take a fair bit of work to do...to the point you may be better using your 97 as spares for the 98 elite and get that one MOT'd if possible...would be easier...lots of rewiring, earlier MID has a black and yellow connector, later one has just a single grey...pinouts are different from CCR800 and so on...its a LOT of work...whats wrong with the spares or repairs one you got?

yeah im going to have to weigh up my options.
the car i have now is a 3.0 manual where as the spares one is 2.5 auto & its not as original, doen't have leather, has more miles, more owners & the cambelts gone so i would rather keep my own & if i cant do these mods i think i can put up with the original stereo.
will have a good look & see whats needed.
thanks for the help

was going to swap headlights over for the xenons but the wiring loom is different.
ive decided to swap the leather from my old car to the car i was going to use for spares & sort the engine aswell.

its alot of work but at least i will have the full bose system & xenons & a few other extras that were fitted after '97

fingers crossed :y

The seats will be missing side airbags....  ....this will bring on airbag light if you don't fool it, but also may cause insurance issues...

ive bit the bullet & ive swapped some good bits of the 98 car onto my 97 car. so now ive got a good silver 3.0 elite with leather :) ;D
so if anybody needs any parts i am breaking the 98 car.
its a 2.5v6 elite estate in silver with excellent memory velour interior
