Are buttons that control the radio on the steering on a face lift supposed to light up and if they are they easy to fix
-
Yes they are.... if both sides not lighting up I would say it's a wiring issue.
-
Don't forget though, they only light up when the radio is ON!
-
Thanks for the replys i changed the radio to an aftermarket one as soon after i got the car so their must be a pin on the loom that connects to the controls .Dose any one know which one .

will need an adapter, if your head unit supports one
-
I have fitted steering wheel to head unit adapter and it is working fine. Do the steering buttons take power from radio i had a ccr2006 [e] fitted dose anyone have a wiring diagram showing radio & steering wheel controls.
PS i did not connect the blue so as the date stays on could that have any thing to do with it.

Thats exactly why, the illumination power comes from the aux out of the radio.
Is the radio reception any good?
-
thanks for that DTM hope you dont mind me calling you that radio reception is fine. i will connect the blue wire up over the weekend ,is there a anyway that i can get the date to stay on ?

To confirm - you've fitted aftermarket stereo, and the date disappears when you turn it on, and you want it to stay there?
-
No the date dose not disappears when i turn the radio on, what i found was that if i conneted the blue wire the date tuned off when i tuned the radio on. So what i need to know is ,
1] if i re-connet the blue wire iwill the lights on the steering wheel light up
2] how bo i then stop the date from turning off when the radio is on
hope i have explaned it ok :-/
-
Right. To prevent date turning off when stereo switched on (assuming that everything is wired correctly!), you need to have the MID programmed to say now stereo.
This is certainly possible with older type MID, who need to check on newer type, but I guess it would be similar.
-
thanks for your quick reply think will have a go on saterday :y
-
Or cut the wire at the back of the MID.....

Can we have a go on mine, the radio display on my MID has always been blank, was thinking it would be nice to have the date always there.

Hi, I too fitted an aftermarket stereo complete with Autoleads steering wheel adaptor, I have lost the lights on the steering wheel controls, is it easy to get the lights working again?

I'll plug a new style MID into my rig tonight, and see if there is a setting for it.

hi DTM you said Or cut the wire at the back of the MID.....
which wire would that be ? ;)

Now I would not ever disagree with 'The Great One', but I'm not convinced that would work, as presumably your HU doesn't pass any signals to MID anyway :-/
-
The plot thickens ?
1. Dose the blue wire not connet to the remote out from the hu.{12v power out when Hu on }
Q 2. How dose the MID know that the blue wire is connected if the HU doesn't pass any signals to MID ::)

On a CCR2006 equipped car, only blues I can find are audio in and a speaker.

Sometimes I hate being right most of the time. :y
Red-white wire, pin 8 of the MID connector.
This is the switched output from the radio which tells the MID that the radio is on....
The reason I also mentioned radio reception is that the switched output from the rad also goes to the aerial amp....and its this that I beleave you have disconnected at the moment.

Ah, Pin 7 on radio, missed that little bugger down there :-[
-
Sorry ment the blue wire from the Hu but when it connets to the Vx ISO connector the other side is red + white.
UPDATE NOW I SEE THE LIGHTS
Could'nt wait till weekend to get it working so went out an car and got it working.
What i did was after The Great One {DTM} said Or cut the wire at the back of the MID..... I thought best way to find out get tester out and found that the red + white wire at the back of the MID PIN 8 powerd up when i re-conneted the blue wire from the Hu to the ISO conneter and so just cut off an isolated the red + white at the back of the MID.

Thanks Guys :y

Thread Hijack Alert :exclamation
is this why my aftermarket head unit (fitted since i've owned car) has never worked properly;
1 Date goes out
2 To get Cd's to play i have to switch between af/ta (alt frq / traf alert)
3 radio reception is always bad (better with rear blind up!!! ;D)
never got round to investigating :D

Would need a bit more to go on like, radio type, any interface modules, wiring changes etc?

Jamie had probs with SONY's before then? this head unit is actualy out of my old car to replace SONY cassette unit that was there when i bought the car i've owned it for 7 years now and it's never let me down :y
-
I don't think so, think the sony's are generally reliable tbh, but as with all things electrical these days, they're built to a cost and as such, the quality has suffered a bit I suppose.
....though it could be the beeps, bangs and flashing lights that wind him up ;D

Are the stalks supposed to light up too on a facelift? I'm pretty sure my steering wheel buttons don't light up but the stalks definitly don't.

The stalks mate? As in the indicator/cruise/lighting/wiper stalks? No, they don't light up, they are generic parts from a General Motors parts bin, not that sophisticated!
The steering wheel controls, YES, they should light up but if an aftermarket head unit is installed they often lose their functionality and subsequently, lighting.
BUT......there are a range of leads and adaptors available that should restore these functions if your head unit is compatible.
