Title: Is it sad?
Post by: amigov6 on 07 February 2008, 22:58:21
To wash your Mig on a "school night"? With my hours not often home at all, so Mig sits in works yard. Today, home @ 15:00hrs, sun shining, so quick wash, shammy off & wheelclean. Could've done the full bit but still looks better & usually only done @ w'ends.
Might sound obsessive but while i thought it was mucky it was the cleanest motor in the car park.
The irony is i bought it from a back st trader who got it as a repo & had'nt even hosed it down before sale.
    Dirty car = lazy owner.

i had to threaten swmbo with death or cutting the credit card up so she wouldn't put the car through a car wash, it took me an age to explain what the brushes do to a cars bodywork

I'm in a similar position to you Jay. I love to wash the car on the weekend, it's the only possible time at this time of year, but sometimes weekends are just too short as it normally takes about 4 hours to do it thoroughly. During the week the car is parked at work all day but I have to drive through country roads to get to and from work.

I cringe every time I have to drive through those pesky muddy puddles but there you are, until they invent a device for lifting me over them I'll have to put up with a dirty car occasionally.  :(

i dont give mine the full loving treatment some people give their cars, but i wash it if it looks dirty! if it has a few days road dust i dont bother usually, but i always have to have the wheels looking clean

my girlfriend spent all day a couple of weeks ago completely cleaning and valeting and t-cutting her little peugeot 306, she instantly went from hating her car to loving it after realising how genuinely tidy it was!!!

mud on the roads are not pure water and sand..

The mixture includes many harmful chemicals from diesel cars, trucks

and others from athmosphere ending with an acidic mixture..

Result , as long as this mixture stays on your car (specially when

wet) , it will continue to damage your paint..Not visible from one day

to the other but after a few months period you will see how the paint

become..

Protector waxes are used for that purpose..

There's a small army of Poles at Sainsburys in Basingstoke who will hand wash an Omega Estate for £6 while you wait
Why bother getting wet yourself? ::)

 >:(You don't want ANY brand of washing up liquid on your paintwork.
All bird poo MUST come straight off, & when you've washed with proper wash & wax, rinse & shammy off. If you're gonna leave it wet don't bother washing it.
All the above eat into the paintwork eventually. ::)

This is why they invented the 'Car Wash' either mechanical or hand, both available in my local town, where I work.

To be honest, I have plans for this beastie, and will shortly have a couple of quid to chuck at it, meaning a weekend car, more power and a few choice chassis mods.

Thinking LS1 conv. 8-)

Gonna get meself a diseasel for commuting.

Guilty, not keen to make a special trip to spend 3 quid every 3 days as quickly as it gets dirty this time of year!  Washed it after 4 months and a week later it looked the same!

Guilty ... at the moment it's being washed 3 times a week !!!

Don't worry, the novelty is wearing off and it'll be back to the once-a-week regime .. :)

I rely on the rain to wash mine. Its quite easy, when its going to rain, just spray some washing up liquid all over and just leave for the downpour  ;D ;D

On a different tack, have you noticed how some cars seem to collect dirt, where as others seem to remain relatively clean?. BMW's tend to have obliterated numberplates, whereas the Miggy never seems to get that dirty.

Car now clean, but will need another going over with a sponge in my opinion.

Off out now to replace my fuel filter and a quick breather clean.

Wish me luck! ;)
