Title: Bose shelf speaker installation - Saloon
Post by: Marks DTM Calib on 23 April 2008, 08:40:23
Has anybody got a pic of the rear shelf with Bose installed and a picture of the speakers from within the boot?

Need to start looking at fitting it into mine!

Will have a look mate and see if I took a pic of the speakers you have installed in the rear shelf...I know the speakers were one either side towards the front of the shelf...the sub resting on the shelf secured to the underneath of the shelf...

I'll try and take a photo of mine later but I can't promise I'll get a chance for a couple of days!

Only got a photo of the top of the shelf, must admit I was struggling to work out how it was secured when I removed it...but I think it was 4 little bolts or screws

Thats excellent thanks, what it means is I have to cut holes in the metal shelf as neither of my CDx's have them.

IIRC i tought the shelf was 75% ready to be cut, you just have to finish cutting the disc out :-/

MV6 had obvious knockouts for speakers, held in with 4 small welds.  Very obvious.

Take a look at mine on Sat, see if you can measure or make some kind of template.

May be the MV6 has the cutouts because being more top end it was there ready to be upgraded...or because its a mini facelift...pre mini facelift probably wouldnt have the pre cutouts as it wasnt an upgrade option then??

Marks_DTM's prefacelift is a 99 car, so it must have changed between 98 and 99 then?

M_DTM - did you measure mine at Telford?

Ill have a look at mine at weekend and take pics, I have some 6x9's to go on the back shelf. When I fitted the rear blind i'm pretty sure I didnt see any ready made holes so, I may have to cut mine. I know they would need cutting anyways given the shape of the speaker, It would be less of a job if they were already half cut.

When I fitted mine the rear shelf definitely didn't have any cutouts. That's on an 02 plate MV6.

I may still have my old metal knockouts, if so, I'll measure then (not so easy to measure hole with speaker in place).

The speaker bit is round (even though top of bose bass speakers aren't).  The cut in carpet bit of parcel shelf is D shared, with the slots for the grill clips.

My 51 CDX is the same, solid rear shelf.

I am looking to fit 6'' speaker in the back have a feeling i will have to get the nibbler out for this.

Am yet to see a drill attachment that will drill out a 5'' hole

You can get upto a 6 inch cutter for mild steel.

The Bose appear to be 5 1/2 inch
