Title: Battery light on

Afternoon all

I had a problem when returning from work this morning the battery light came on in the car, it only went off if the car was moving and revs over about 4.5k under load.
The battery is as old as the car which is a 2002
Do you think its the alternator or the battery? Im guessing that as its more expensive it will be the alternator!

Generally I would have said check that it is charging ok with a meter.  But when I had my Carlton Diplomat I had a similar problem and found it the single small wire coming out of the alternator (Female spade connector) that was the problem.  it was just about to break on the crimp connection.

Would consider checking that along with any other advice that members offer.

old one now off and the bearings are a bit tight, all wires were connected so i guess its got to be the alternator, new one to be collected tomorrow will let you know....

Fixed!

new alternator fitted £113 on TC from VX and all is well again

I wouldn't have been surprised if it had cost a lot more. I assume that's exchange!

My local 'stealer' wanted £155 + VAT for one, though it was for a 2.5TD. they also offered to fit, 1.5 hrs 'labour' @ £65 + VAT per hour... :( :(
I politely told them where to stick it, and got one from the local factors. £115 inc vat, and fitted it meself.... (Begger of a job, if I may say so!!!!!) :y :y
