Title: tow bar electrics 12v main
Post by: ghondie on 31 May 2008, 14:32:15
on my tow bar i have 2 connectors, the main light board one and another white one. what is the full function of this? it seems to have a much thicker cable than the trailer board plug, is it a direct connection to the battery?
if so what is the likely route for this to take, im tryin to run a power cable from the battery to a pmr radio that i will put in the boot(has a control panel thats mounted elsewhere.) and it suggests to run direct from the batter to the radio.
this seems like it could be a bit of a pain,

could i just use the existing cable without problems?

regards
Nathan

I think you will find this is for powering things like fridges in a caravan when towing so should be a permantely live supply for anything else. :y

Nearly.
It does indeed supply fridge & will charge your caravan battery but the live feed only becomes live when the engine is running via a relay of some kind.
There is a feed though in the boot, behind the rear boot panel, that will be permanently live once Fuse No 29 has been fitted (assuming my pre face lift hand book is the same) If it already has a 12S socket fiited I would think that it's already fitted.
