Title: Audio in ?
Post by: JonArgraig on 07 May 2008, 13:26:45
Ive got the vauxhall standed head unit my mega with a 6 disk changer in the boot, now I hardly use the CD's as I have my (ghey I know) iPod for music, now the issue is that I have now fitted my LCD for the back seat which is been run yet again by the iPod, but what I want to do rather than a crapy fm tuner is use the line out kit I have for the video and maybe use the audio in from the CD changer.

I was thinking find the left right audio cables, cut and splice to the iPods loom and have a selection of audio CD's in the changer with silient tracks, would this work ?

Like your thinking!  So Headunit send request to play,
Cd changer starts playing.....cant see it mattering whether silent or not
Ipod actually supplies the music to the wires....

Presume this will need the CD changer to actually be playing music....not just supplying the data for the headunit to decode?

Sure someone can advise if its possible  :-/
Suspect the changer is dumb and isnt actually suppling music, or at the very least at a line level, not amped output like the ipod  :-/

Probably talking rubbish, but a very interesting idea  8-)

Well I'm using a tape head adaptor at the moment as as I can't use a FM tuner (a good one at least) and the video/audio out loom at the same time.

I'm usre there is going to be a way of doing it :)

Hack a Trafficmaster loom, pull the mute to 0V and HU will mute and accept incoming input on Left input (slight mod and you should be able to rig up right input as well - as long as L+R aren't bridged by the HU when in mute mode??? DaveDND should know).

Dave says give up now and either buy a decent head unit with audio input or one of our high gain FM modulators.

I can hear the groans now of those that will tell you that FM modulators are no good, and I bet they have only ever tried the cheesy ones built into a fag lighter or the even worse ones that are plugged in line with an aerial cable.

My modulators are in no way a cheap solution, but I`ve never had any complaints about them either !!

yes this works great have done so in mine, no electrical problems etc, only realy annoying thing is that you have to have the cd display on the screen all thetime.

No, our little box has the RCA input - not the stereo.
