Right I have a 1996 3.0 omega elite and it comes with the SC 804 radio/tape player with cd changer in the boot (Picture below)
I have managed to get a vauxhall CDR500(E) single cd player with code(second picture below) to replace it. Anyway I've taken out the old radio and fitted the new one and the digital display on the dash doesn't work with the new radio but if I take it out and put the old one back in it works, any idea's

Do you know why there not compatible
-
No, sure there is more info on what are and arn't interchangable here somewhere.
Something to do with different communication protocols I think...
Do you get sound, just no display / remote?

Switch the radio off.
Press and hold pre-set buttons 4 and 6.
Turn the radio on whilst continuing to press 4 and 6 until the radio bleeps.
That should set the display drive to the correct number of digits.

Just tryed it, nothing :(
I pressed and held the AS button and switched the radio on, it came up with the 4 dashs ---- and allowed me to enter the radio code which I did. I can hear the radio OK and switch stations and play cd's but still nothing on the display and when I switch the radio off the dispaly show's the date as it did when I switched the old radio off.

There are two versions of Vauxhall vehicle displays, one with 8 Digits and one with 10 Digits. If you connect this stereo to the wrong display, code entry is possible, but the display will either freeze or dissappear. Turn off Radio, Press and Hold Presets "4" & "6" at the same time to toggle between the two display modes
try with ignition on and even try switching on whilst pressing the buttons.

Yes, the CDR500/CAR400/CCR600/CCR800 can work with both 8 digit and 10 digit displays.
>1998 Omegas have 8 digit display (radio info above computer lines), 1998> have 10 digit displays (radio info below computer lines).
To switch, ign on, radio off. Press hold 4 and 6, turn radio on, release buttons after bleep. This toggles between 3 (iirc) possible settings.
SC804 can only drive 8 digit display.

As the car is a 1996 it has the 8 digit display, I've tried holding 4&6, turning on radio and waiting but no beep and nothing on the display, I've also fitted the old radio the SC804 and doing the same and after about 8-9 seconds I do get a beep :(
